Buzzfeed stands behind its story.

Reconciling these two positions, it sounds like Buzzfeed is close but not exactly on point in its wording insofar as it involves the Special Counsel.

The Special Counsel needed to clarify that the parts of the story seeming to emerge from his investigation in fact did not. That is, because the Special Counsel seems to think he has a duty to keep his work secret until he decides to publish it.

I don't think the Special Counsel made comments about the accuracy of other parts of the story.

But this leaves the entire story in limbo. It has to be discounted until each of its facts are confirmed or found inaccurate. I am sure Schiff's committee will pursue the truth.

Mueller's office disputes BuzzFeed report that Trump directed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress

By Caroline Kelly, CNN
Updated 7:51 PM ET, Fri January 18, 2019

(CNN)Special counsel Robert Mueller's office is disputing a BuzzFeed report that President Donald Trump directed his then-personal attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about the proposed Moscow Trump Tower project.

"BuzzFeed's description of specific statements to the Special Counsel's Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's Congressional testimony are not accurate," said special counsel spokesman Peter Carr in a statement.

Carr's statement is extremely rare. The special counsel's office has almost never commented on published stories.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
