It's really quite striking how many of the folks I am reading these days are Jewish ex-Republicans. Frum. Rubin. Krystol. etc. The folks who used to be the heart of the party.
I didn't really notice them as an ethnic group before Trump. But now I realise the Republican party has thrown its hand in with the evangelical crowd, regardless of the sense of their positions, I guess exiting is easier.
But it's not a good thing that the Republican party has become so racially and religiously distinct. It is like a return to ideas that existed before the Enlightenment.
