Knowing the answers to the questions you ask before asking them is standard police practice. To defend Trump, Dershowitz now proposes that such questioning makes the lies told by the suspect immaterial? That's in the "doh" category of defences.
Police: Did you murder the victim?
Suspect: Nope.
Police: You are lying. We know you did it. Your fingerprints are on the murder weapon.
Suspect: Okay, but it wasn't a material lie. I was just denying the crime.
