Under Ben Carson, more families live in HUD housing that fails health and safety inspections

While HUD Secretary Ben Carson pledged to fix low-income housing, the number of properties cited for health and safety violations has been on the rise, an NBC News investigation found. At one HUD-subsidized property in Hartford, Connecticut, residents complain of mold, leaks and insect infestations, while their private landlord continues to collect millions in taxpayer dollars and HUD missed federally mandated deadlines to crack down.
“How could they let someone get away with doing something like this?” asked Rondesha Brooks, who fears for her 12-year-old daughter’s health.
