Veterans can't get their benefit checks because of computer problems. Now some are facing homelessness.
The Forever GI Bill, a landmark piece of legislation signed into law by President Donald Trump last year, greatly expanded benefits for veterans and their families — but it did not upgrade the Department of Veterans Affairs' technical capabilities to account for those changes.

Now IT glitches at VA have caused GI Bill benefit payments covering education and housing to be delayed for months or never be delivered. As of Nov. 8, more than 82,000 are still waiting for their housing payments and hundreds of thousands are believed to have been affected.

"I’m about to lose everything that I own and become homeless," said one veteran who served in Afghanistan. "I don’t want to be that veteran on the street begging for change because I haven’t received what I was promised."
