All those Republicans who say K "is a good man" but we will listen to F's story have given the game away with the adjective they assign to K. When they say they will listen to F, they mean they will humour her, but they have already shown adjectivally that they will disbelieve her story.
It's hard to question one's assumptions. He probably is a good chap when not drinking. But he drinks, or has done so. And seems to behave differently when he drinks. Unfortunately, he cannot and has not disclaimed the drinker. And so he has not acknowledged or engaged his demon.
