What's actually going on here is that Bill Shine is running a bunch of Fox-style angles to which his Republican audience is responsive.

1. The subtle hints that women are emotional and thus liable to be unreasonable.

2. The notion that Ford is a liar.

3. The contradictory idea that all 17 year old boys behave this way.

4. Misstating the nature of the touching as naive and clumsy rather than aggressive and scary.

5. Portraying Ford as an activist.

6. Generally pretending to be interested in truth while pursuing a partisan agenda which cares not a whit for it.

A fair-minded person waits for the results of a proper investigation and the public interviews before forming a final opinion. There are people who do sexual assaults and there are people who lie about them. One of these two fits one of these two definitions. At this point, I only have a suspicion and that is that K was drunk and has no memory of the incident.

Can you?

The GOP smear campaign, having failed with its defamatory doppelganger explanation, is now found to be performing a covert investigation and publicising things they think damage Ford.

This is why you want the FBI doing the investigating, as Feinstein has requested. It is normal for the FBI to investigate nominees for senior positions.
