It's still astonishing that the President of the US just makes stuff up.
And it's even more astonishing that his voters either believe him, or don't care that he lies. This is the longer run problem: first this kind of ignorance produced Bush, whom the rubes disclaimed when things didn't work out as predicted (markets actually fail without regulation; lower taxes actually don't necessarily create growth; not preparing for disasters makes for a weak response; terrorism increases as a result of torture, and so on); now it has produced Trump for whom things aren't working as predicted either (protectionism actually delivers economic harms; lower taxes actually still don't necessarily promote growth; not preparing for disasters and not responding to them makes them worse; NoKo is a hard problem etc) ... but his supporters purchase the fantasy version in which he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, and perhaps one for economics as well!
