This says as much about Ukraine as the US and how Russia creates its web of influence.

Manafort should have been allowed nowhere near the US election with that financial background. He may believe he yielded no influence to Deripaska. But he should have known it was disqualifying.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort obtained a $10 million loan from Russian aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska, according to an unsealed search warrant application that was part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Reuters reports that tax returns for a company owned by Manafort and his wife showed the $10 million loan. The search warrant was granted for Manafort’s Virginia apartment. An affidavit attached to the warrant application also revealed that Deripaska “financially backed Manafort’s consulting work in Ukraine” in the mid-2000s. Deripaska is reportedly close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and was one of the Russian oligarchs sanctioned by the United States. Manafort has been indicted in Washington, D.C., and Virginia on several charges including money laundering, tax, and bank fraud.
