The U.S. isn't going to this year's World Cup, but soccer's showpiece tournament will be coming to North America in 2026
A joint bid from the U.S., Canada and Mexico has won the right to host soccer's World Cup in 2026.
Branded United 2026, the North American bid beat out competition from Morocco after a vote of the sport’s governing body, FIFA, in Moscow on Wednesday.
The venues will be selected from among 23 stadiums that exist or already are under construction, including three each in Mexico and Canada.
This year's World Cup kicks off in Russia on Thursday.
