Kim has won already. The US could always have had a meeting with him. Trump has given him the standing he craved.

NEWS ANALYSIS: The stakes are high for the nuclear summit as Trump arrives in Singapore. But is he really prepared for the North Koreans?

President Donald Trump has dismissed the notion of studying for his meeting with Kim Jong Un Tuesday, saying he will rely on “attitude” and “my touch, my feel” to size up his counterparts. North Korea, on the other hand, has been preparing for this meeting for 45 years.

Former U.S. officials who’ve negotiated with the North Koreans say Trump will need a lot more than blustery self-confidence in his own deal-making to avoid what could become dangerous mistakes, writes NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell. “The scary thing,” said one analyst, “is that the president may come out of the meeting thinking he’s got a victory and not realizing that he has just fallen into all of North Korea’s traps.”
