Trump owes Jon Tester one heck of an apology — and his thanks

You can tell how inappropriate Trump’s accusation was by the reaction of Republicans. “The chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee refused Monday to agree with President Donald Trump’s criticism of the panel’s top Democrat, Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, nor the President’s call for the Montana Democrat to resign in the wake of the Dr. Ronny Jackson scandal,” CNN reported. “In fact, [Sen. Johnny] Isakson defended Tester’s decision to publicly release the allegations against Jackson, saying that ‘every senator has the right to exercise their options’ and ‘that’s the way it should be.'” Enough said.
In the grand scheme of Trump’s unpresidential conduct and violation of democratic norms, the Jackson/Tester affair might not be the most important issue. However, Trump’s impulsive nomination of an unqualified sycophant (Jackson declared after Trump’s physical that the president could live to be 200 with the right diet!), his cringe-worthy inability to quickly pull the nomination and his groundless smear of a senator who did his job — thereby protecting the president from a physician whose conduct is under serious scrutiny and protecting U.S. veterans who deserve a competent and ethical VA chief — serve as perfect examples of why Trump is grossly unfit to serve.
