I agree, Trump wanted to leave Syria in 48 hours last week.

Unfortunately, the Kurds always end up with the short end.

Erdogan is becoming more like a dictator.
These 'strongmen' are in a race to see which one can get away with more power, Trump included.

Bolton is going to be a real problem, I wonder what direction Pompeo will take? He'll probably get in as Secy of State. He has established a strong relationship with Trump. Feeding him daily briefings in a manner he can absorb them, with charts & mentions of Trump to hold his interest...

Scary times.

For myself, I think that Trump has conceded Syria to Putin. The missiles were meant to convey the message that Assad has to stay within the confines of chemical weapons conventions, but not much more.

As usual, the Kurds are going to be the victim here. Everyone around them treats them appallingly. They need America to support them. Bigly. But Trump won't dare. Meanwhile, NATO member Turkey is gradually moving in Putin's direction, which is a massive shift in the regional balance of power.

The US now only has Israel and Saudi Arabia as significant regional allies. Worrying times. Putin clearly wants to control the world's energy supplies.
