I am sure the teenagers are sincere and I am sure they are a canary in the coalmine. The status quo doesn't work. More guns doesn't work. Maybe try the solution which works everywhere. Regulate gun ownership, like you regulate the use of cars. Calibrate the regulation to American society.
Absolute rights imagined by single issue fanatics are always found wanting. The only viable rights models admit and describe the exceptions to the rules. And the exceptions to the exceptions. This is why the common law is a better system of discovery than the US Constitution. It evolves according to circumstances and doesn't overvalue the initial principle.
