Christine Quinn on Cynthia Nixon: ‘Unqualified Lesbian’
Former New York City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn called newly announced gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon an “unqualified lesbian.”
The comments came in an interview with the New York Post, in which Quinn also bashed Nixon—most famous for her role as Miranda on Sex and the City—for having endorsed Bill de Blasio over her in the 2013 Democratic mayoral primary race.
“I’m surprised by this race. It’s a flight of fancy on her part,” Quinn, a supporter of current Gov. Andrew Cuomo, told the Post.
“Cynthia Nixon was opposed to having a qualified lesbian become mayor of New York City. Now she wants to be an unqualified lesbian to be the governor of New York,”
Quinn, an open lesbian, continued. “You have to be qualified and have experience. She isn’t qualified to be the governor.” Several hours after the interview first ran, Quinn wrote on Twitter that “Cynthia Nixon’s identity has no bearing on her candidate and it was not my intention to suggest it did.” She did not offer an apology.
