I agree everything else you said but not this.

Americans don't need a psychiatric screening in order to carry guns, and although I don't put teachers on a pedestal, I do think they're as good as most Americans.

I think considerably LESS of psychiatrists. In fact, (pardon the language but no other words suffice), I think psychiatrists as a whole are a bunch of sick f*cks rivaled by only Catholic priests in their mental perversity. Think of it like this: Psychiatrists are DOCTORS. They could as easily have dedicated themselves to birthing babies, suturing wounds, diagnosing cancers or transplanting hearts, but they instead chose to specialize in psychiatric mumbo-jumbo that's about as verifiably effective as economics or astrology.

To put the kind of effort in that is required to be a medical doctor and then specialize in something that might as well be 18th century quackery... well, there's obviously something wrong with you.

A positive psychiatric evaluation ensures nothing. It certainly doesn't do what you said: "ensure they are mentally stable."

But if schools want to put that sort of a rider onto the permission slips that let teachers carry while on school property, I'm not going to argue too much. The important thing is to get some of the teachers armed. This is about protecting kids, after all, not putting a feather into teachers' caps.

Simply 'arming teachers' IS dangerous.

They need to spend about a week with the police at the
police firing range learning all about the weapon, and
how to safely and effectively use it as well as how
to safely carry it.

The teachers who will be allowed to carry weapons to
school also need to be vetted - a psychiatric screening
to ensure they are mentally stable.

Armed guards in all the schools? How you gonna keep
the 'wanna be Rambo's' and half crazies with nothing
better to do out? Not to mention the expense.

But an armed subset of teachers who know the school
and have been properly trained . . . Guy who wants
to shoot up that school is likely to end up in the
morgue. With good riddance.
