All the willing trading partners of the Pacific are signed up to the TPP.
"Eleven countries including Japan and Canada signed a landmark Asia-Pacific trade agreement without the United States on Thursday in what one minister called a powerful signal against protectionism and trade wars."
So that's why Trump announced his protectionism when he did.
Sad to see the US so isolated.
If you are bothered by the way these trade deals damage low or unskilled workers, then (re)train them and redistribute income in their direction while you do so. That's currently the best solution available. It was what Reagan and Thatcher did. Turn them into contributors and consumers.
Sad to see how hopeless the nationalist thinking of the far, far right is. The US once believed it could compete. Now it hides behind tariff barriers and Mexican walls, whining that it's a victim of its own global trading architecture.
The old America was about muscular individuallism. There's a bunch of territory in between individuallism and wall-building. America is the new Ming Dynasty China.
