Good morning ZZ and all,
I want to take a moment to dissect this statement ZZ attributes to Ronald Reagan.
Ronald Reagan: Free trade. Move business around the world, make more money, as well as they grow and can afford AMERICAN TECH AND PRODUCTS, like iPhones instead of Korean shit.
Okay. I was in full swing in my businesses during the Reagan Years. I also can say that Ronald Reagan, after having reading about his beliefs and observing his policies, in order to stimulate our economy from the crapola mess it was in during the Liberal Jimmy Peanut Farmer Carter, when interest rates went to and mortgage rates were 22 percent(know this because I tried to sell my house and buy another one but could not),
DID NOT tell American businesses to leave the country and go overseas to every low labor rate country in the world and take all the manufacturing work with them.
That is not true.
Reagan did then what Trump has done today. LOWER SUBSTANTIALLY the TAX RATES across the board for both BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS.
I never will forget the differences I saw on my income tax returns personally and for the business.
THIS allowed companies to re-invest and update equipment, improve manufacturing efficiencies and work with inventories for more efficient distribution of products for sale and cash flow.
Did SOME companies go overseas to manufacture? Sure. Some did. Some ALWAYS will.
MANY do so to get away from LABOR UNIONS like the UAW and their oftentimes outrageous bargaining "demands" and under the misguided thinking that assemblyline workers should make as much money as highly educated engineers who TELL the workers HOW to do what and when and with what in order to make a car. Seems like they have the thing ass backwards.
However, that being said, it is not true Regan encouraged companies to relocate overseas. He promoted doing more TRADE and BUSINESS with overseas nations and people with products made here in this country.
I was one of the companies doing just that. And yes ZZ, I had business overseas in China, Russia and Japan, and Taiwan. As well as across the entire United States.
I just want to correct that particular statement. THAT is not what Reagan stated or meant.
As for your opinion of products made in Korea, may I ask you to consider such companies as:
Hyundai/Kia (best rated brand of automobiles by JD POwers), SAMSUNG and LG Washers and Dryers, Refriferators, Stoves, Smartphones and tablets and laptops.
Those are an impressive list of companies making very high quality products that we buy here daily.
I own a Hyundai vehicle. Fairly new one. Best car I ever owned. By FAR.... That is not to say that an Accord would not be a good buy, but mine is every bit as nice and a lot less money... JD powers rated mine as the 7th best made vehicle of ALL motor vehicles under $50,000.
That includes the so called luxury cars and every other vehicle costing 50 grand or less. So I can personally attest to the quality of some Korean products, including my LG Optimus G line of smartphones. Works exceptionally well.
Let's just say that the reason I looked at overseas cars was because the American ones I owned prior were extremely prone to breaking..a lot....
Never again...
Sorry for length. Just wanted to expound with examples....
have a nice day!
