Manafort will argue he was a naive pawn in others' chess game. It's possible. For a person to have criminal responsibility, they need to have a wicked intent.
I kinda admire his stubbornness. It is the position an innocent man would take. But it's the same one a real determined badass would take as well.
I don't know many of the details of his case yet. I am very suspicious but plan to hold onto the presumption of innocence as long as possible. But the process as a whole stinks.

For sure it looks like that is the path Mueller is pursuing. Corruption not collusion. The collusion flows from the corruption.
