Decomposed> Give us your definition of "assault weapon," please - since it's a term you gun control people invented.
ZZshart> Any weapon that is not a hunting rifle or handgun. Modified weapons of war like the AR 15 are ASSAULT WEAPONS.
ZZ,
Try to educate yourself. Please. Any weapon, military
grade or civilian could be used for hunting.
As an example, I could own an M-16. Fully automatic
capable with lots of clips and ammo . . . but never
use it for anything but hunting coyotes. And I could
legitimately call it my 'hunting rifle' - because it
is still a rifle and my only use would be for hunting.

To offer you this AR-15/M16 review and comparison, we have to briefly look back at the original development of the system in the ArmaLite Rifle (hence the “AR” which does NOT stand for “Assault Rifle”).
