Hi csl,

That's one perspective on the end of slavery.

For myself, I see slavery in North America emerging due to the low price of land and the high price of agricultural labour.

And ending in spite of the fact that folks in the south were keen to keep their relatively cheap agricultural work force.

First came indentured servitude. Then lengthening periods of servitude. Then servitude without an end date.

Last came war, not a peaceful transition to urban employment.

In England, it was a moral crusade, which achieved its ends through the processes of law (case law to begin with, statute later).

In America, that sort of change doesn't happen because the constitution resists peaceful evolution. Immoral, selfish folks can defend their incumbency easily.

ps I also notice people don't attack police stations where neither the cops nor the people have guns. Those countries also have fewer weapons-related homicides and deaths through accidental discharge than the US. Go figure.

Not sure the civil war solved anything. Seems to me the industrial revolution deserves most of the credit for eliminating slavery after thousands of years of existence.

I noticed there don’t seem to be any attacks on police stations. I wonder why that is.
