The thing about the bandwagoners is that they make the whole movement sound like a collective whine.

Whereas what one wants to deal with are the serious cases. The Weinsteins, the Trumps and possibly the Wynns of the world. They now have cover because folks will say - well, women make a great big meal out of almost nothing and dish it out to all men.

There was the story of Lake Woebegone man touching a woman's back because her shirt was not tucked in. Shock! But he lost his career. There was the actress who complained about her annoying make-up artist and how she was upset, from her millionairess' mansion, that that person still had their job. The nuttiest one of all was the girl who complained about an actor who asked for oral sex from her but omitted to mention she was his girlfriend at the time.

And then there was decent, kind Jim Carrey, getting sued by the family of his blackmailing ex-girlfriend.

The whole movement has achieved the goal someone like Trump would have had. He will say "I have behaved like all other men, and you are not going to throw us all in jail". The metoo background is something they can now merge into.

It's a shame. People who want everything usually end up with nothing. The puritans have spoiled the movement.

I especially agree with your final comments. Large pattern abuse is abominable.

But you are not going to change the fact that many human beings don't get along and are horrid to one another. In this group, some will go into territory they would not otherwise go. If the behaviour is isolated, one should try to understand. I suspect a very small number of people are wanton, serial abusers and those people ought to be punished.

Abuse is a terrible thing. But so are lies and spurious allegations. Where there's a pattern of either, you should respond. Where there's no pattern, I think you presume innocence. And where there are incentives, I assume this will influence the behaviour of the parties, and I try to discount it.

Some of the #metoo groupies have told ridiculous stories. And many decent people have been treated terribly: Jim Carrey; Lake Woebegone man; Matt Damon etc.

As you know, my concern from the beginning is that extreme cases would lead to marginal ones, attorneys would enter the bedroom and people would be made to feel bad for merely clumsy behaviour. We got there, and then some.
