Don't allege. Sue or report it.

If you don't report or sue, don't allege.

People's reputations matter. There's a process for establishing the truth of a claim, and it doesn't start with a person contacting a journalist.

What is going to happen, and is happening, is that folks get better at slinging the mud back whence it came.

There's a second issue to do with the cost and a third to do with the law's functioning, but that's a different conversation.

Yes, people shouldn't harass one another. Yes, we have due process to protect ourselves from mischievous claims. Right now, you have to be as rich and innocent as Jim Carrey to avoid blackmail from dishonest accusers.
