Charlottesville Police Chief Retires After Damning Report
Charlottesville, Virginia's police chief announced his retirement Monday after a December report from a federal prosecutor who criticized his response to a white supremacist march over the summer. The "Unite the Right" saw multiple people injured in fights and one woman killed after a white supremacist drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters.
The report accused police chief Al Thomas of leading a "slow-footed response" to the event, deleting text messages relevant to the investigation, and intimidating subordinates who might speak to investigators.
