It's also being reported that Trump was told that it would help get Roy Moore elected since this would solidify his support among the extreme-Right evangelicals since many of them are still of the belief, often called 'Dispensationalism', that Israel must first gain control of 100% of what was described as the 'Promised Land' in the Bible and that this must be accomplished before the prophecies in Revelation can come to pass, including the second coming of Jesus. Some even go so far as to say that Armageddon must be initiated in such a manner that Israel, if it's not actually destroyed, must at least be subjected to a period of war that will take it to the brink of total destruction. So anything that solidifies Israel's control of the area must also be done in a way that does NOT lead to peace. The final conflict must come about, one way or another.

Hi keystone,

its a distraction from Mueller, it firms up his support with Alabama evangelical voters.
he gets to be the bull in the china shop, again, and gets center stage.
he doesn't think things through, Mattis & McMaster were opposed.
