the transgender nominee in Virginia took out the homophobic 25 yr republican incumbent!

Westchester County NY upset the republican incumbent too!

even on Long Island a democratic woman Curran won!
it had been 100 year stronghold for republicans ;))

WHITE PLAINS - State Sen. George Latimer won election as Westchester County executive Tuesday, unseating two-term incumbent Rob Astorino in a result some say was a referendum on President Donald Trump.

"Democrats, a mighty wave has hit Westchester County," Latimer told enthusiastic supporters gathered at The Coliseum bar.

Latimer, a Rye state senator, emerged victorious after a bitter and expensive campaign where Astorino's campaign outspent him by a 3-to-1 margin up until the latest campaign filing period.

NEW HYDE PARK -
The victories of two Democratic women, Laura Gillen and Laura Curran, are getting a lot of attention this morning.

County Legislator Laura Curran made history by becoming the first woman to declare victory in a race for Nassau County executive.

The Democrat from Baldwin was locked in a close race with Republican Jack Martins, a former state senator and Mineola mayor. Both candidates vowed to put an end to corruption after the high-profile arrests of current executive Ed Mangano and Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Venditto.

Meanwhile, Laura Gillan became the first Democrat ever elected as Hempstead town supervisor. Gillen won an unexpected victory over Republican incumbent Anthony Santino in the race.

Gillen said, "We exposed the nepotism, the cronyism, the financial management in the town and the need for a bipartisan, cordial, new town board that will deliver results for the residents of the Town of Hempstead."

Republicans have controlled Hempstead for about 100 years, according to political experts.

Republicans were plagued by corruption scandals and political in-fighting.

This has obvious knock-on effects. The president's authority is damaged within his party right up to the senate level because he no longer can claim to win them elections.

Now they will start distancing themselves from him, except where it suits them (and their donors).
