Victimhood is definitely one of my themes. Everyone has discovered that if you play victim, you are untouchable.
OMG, I am offended!
Folks can find something to be offended about in a cup of tea or a clutch of penguins.
Laws that start out as sensible protections for the rare case of injuries to victimised people end up being used for marginal issues by attorneys. Hey, there's big money in a large class of victims, even if justice is the casualty.
To me, this is a problem with everything from sexual harassment to claims of racism to employee discrimination, and so on. Say the wrong word in a single sentence in a year, and you are damned by all and sundry. For nothing. Or if it's something, it ought to be a trivial fine. But the courts (or the cost of the courts) means that the damages are massive and absurd.
Meanwhile, the internet is the perfect medium of magnification. It heaps opprobrium on all transgressors.
Oy vey!
Trump's people have adopted the same model. Someone called the last election the first white minority election. Now everyone is a victim.
This is where all that stuff about white privilege and male chauvinism ends. Political castration and the shrieks of folks who feel like eunuchs. They want sympathy too. A new class of victims.
I get it. Everyone is a single issue fanatic these days. I blame liberallism for this, just like I blame US conservatism for lack of compassion.
Maybe we have reached the end of the current road when it comes to the assertion of rights if even a cake brings its maker to the attention of the supreme court.
