So, yes, you dumbsh!t ... "jumping a fence somewhere" is a criminal violation of our federal law. It is also a criminal violation to exceed the time provided by a legal visa that has now expired - because now they are no longer inside the United States with the official permission of immigration officers. Yes, such criminal violations are usually treated as misdemeanors that typically result in deportation, BUT for the first offense, the illegal alien can be fined and tossed in jail for up to 6 months, AND for repeat criminal violations, the illegal alien can be fined even more and tossed in jail for up to 2 years.
