Linda, I was born in Waco, Texas. Back
in the old days Mom worked for Wolsworth.
One of her bosses bought a chain of dime
stores in New Mexico and got her to move
to Gallup, New Mexico to manage one. About
eight years later he got health problems
and sold the chain to an outfit in Oklahoma.
They told Mom that she wanted to continue
working, that was fine, but they did not
have women managers. At the time my aunt
lived in Roscoe and told Mom about a small
store that was for sale. Mom and Dad moved
here and started a new life. Because the
store was not making much money, Mom
started making donuts and everybody liked
them. She then got up at 3:30 in the
morning, six days a week. That paid all
the bills and more.
