Report: Feds Wanted Manafort’s Son-in-Law to Cooperate

Federal investigators have zeroed in on Paul Manafort’s son-in-law to attempt to get leverage over Trump’s former campaign chairman as the probe into his real-estate deals and ties to Russia gains momentum, Politico reports.

Three sources familiar with the investigation said Jeffrey Yohai, who has previously faced scrutiny for his business deals with Manafort, was approached by investigators this summer. One source said the development made “real waves” in Manafort’s inner circle, while another said investigators were trying to get “into Manafort’s head.” The report came hours after news broke that the FBI raided Manafort’s home last month to seize documents for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s election meddling.

Yohai partnered with Manafort in a series of real-estate transactions in New York that are reportedly suspected of involving funds from Kremlin-backed Ukrainian politicians. Manafort has not been accused of any wrongdoing; he and Yohai have yet to comment on the report.
