It seems almost no one was willing to publish the "controversial" memo.
I think it was absurd of the company to fire him for this opinion piece. He was simply challenging the complacency of the status quo, which is what thoughtful people do. It was actually a well-researched and sensitive piece.
Instead of firing him, someone with a different opinion should have engaged him thoughtfully. If their argument was better, it would have prevailed. But maybe different opinions is part of what diversity is about. It is anti-diversity to fire someone with a different opinion. Irony.
What a crazy world we live in that an insane, eggshell culture like Google's exists. They actually employ a person with the title Vice President of Diversity, Integrity & Governance. Yuck. That is worse than Orwell.
This is exactly why so many on the right despise the left, and rightfully so in this case. We want a far broader highway of ideas. Not a narrow, victimcentric one way lane. If the election of Trump expresses one sensible thing, it is that folks are sick of over-sensitivity.
