Reviews; 2 books & a movie

Last week I read “Small Great Things” a novel by Jodi Picoult.
She tackles the subtly of race & the huge impact it has on people, both white & those of color.

Ruth is a Black nurse on the maternity floor, she's been on the job for 20 years & is great at it.
A white supremacist couple have their first child, a son, Davis, and don't want 'her' or anyone of color touching their son. (she's the only Black nurse on the floor)
Its complicated, but Davis dies & Ruth is the only nurse in the room at the time.

The author is thoughtful, provocative & takes several surprising turns. Its an awesome book, with an amazing ending!

Yesterday I started 'The Fix' the latest by David Baldacci.
I enjoy his books, and he has a repeat character, detective Amos Decker, in some of them. Decker is back!
He's unusual, was in the NFL for a short time, he was injured. His injury gives him total recall & a memory that holds on to every detail.
Another page turner ;)

Went to see 'The Big Sick' yesterday.
Based on a true story, a Pakistani man falls in love with a white woman. Besides wanting their son to become a doctor, (he's a comedian) they want him to marry a Pakistani.
Interesting movie, with comedy & cultural differences worth exploring.
We enjoyed it.
