Poll: Half of Trump Voters Say Trump Won Popular Vote
Forty-nine percent of Trump voters surveyed said they believe the real-estate mogul won the popular vote in last year’s presidential election, according to a new Politico/Morning Consult poll.
Only 40 percent of that same group correctly replied that Democrat Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. Overall, 59 percent of voters polled said Clinton won over more actual American voters than Trump.
The president himself asserted the untruth on Twitter last year. “In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally,” Trump tweeted in late November.
In reality, according to the Federal Election Commission, Clinton won nearly 2.9 million more votes than did Trump.
