Well it turns out that the 'bare-bones' insurance policies that the so-called "Cruz Amendment" would allow would not be sufficient enough to be considered as a "qualifying policy" and therefore, even if you had paid your premiums for years, if you were to suddenly come down with something NOT covered by that minimal policy, you would be BARED from purchasing an insurance policy that actually did cover your condition. In other words, if you purchase one of those cheap(er) bare-bones policies you would be legally giving-up any chance of having a pre-existing condition covered by even an albeit much more expense policy for a minimum of six months, which under many circumstances, could prove to be a death sentence or lead to bankruptcy.

It's being reported that the bare-bones insurance policies, that the so-called 'Cruz Amendment" to the Senate healthcare bill would allow, would NOT be considered as "qualifying policies" if the patient later needed to purchase a better, more comprehensive policy.

The new Trumpcare law would replace the individual mandate with a rule that states that you must wait six months before you can purchase an insurance policy if you were not already covered by a "qualifying policy". This is intended to stop people from waiting until they actually get sick or are injured and then go out and buy an insurance policy. This is what the individual mandate was intended to prevent under the ACA. As one Senator put it, to allow people to simply wait until they need it to buy insurance, it would be like driving around with no auto insurance but if you have an accident, you could simply buy a policy and then make a claim to the get your car fixed.

This is part of the lie that the GOP and the White House has been telling people when it comes to their claims that people with pre-existing conditions will still be able to purchase insurance which would cover their condition.
