CBO Refutes Trump Claim His Plan Would Balance Budget
The Congressional Budget Office on Thursday released its analysis of President Trump’s 2018 budget proposal and, in doing so, refuted his claim that his plan will balance the federal budget in a decade. Although the study found that the Trump plan would reduce the federal deficit relative to current law, it will not balance the budget over a decade as suggested by the president.
The Trump administration estimated a $16 billion surplus by 2027, but according to the CBO, it would actually be a $720 billion deficit.
