Smoking gun territory.

1. It appears the Russian government sought to engage with Trump's campaign.

2. They may have intended to enmesh Trump in a scheme.

3. It is clear that Trump Jr was willing to treat with the Russian government, an adversary of the US, and willing to collude in the recovery of information - something Trump Sr has denied.

4. The meeting itself lasted for 30 minutes or so and involved two other members of Trump's campaign, who had also seen the email exchange.

5. Did Trump Sr know about this? If so, one wonders whether such a person makes a suitable President. If the campaign was willing to go there once, it is easy to imagine it went there again.

6. The linkage between the Trump campaign and the Russian government makes sense of Trump Sr's political stance with respect to Russia.

7. Bang! Shot fired.

Trump Jr. was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email.

The email to the younger Mr. Trump was sent by Rob Goldstone, a publicist and former British tabloid reporter who helped broker the June 2016 meeting. In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Trump acknowledged that he was interested in receiving damaging information about Mrs. Clinton, but gave no indication that he thought the lawyer might have been a Kremlin proxy.
