That's a big problem for us.
We are divided on the Constitution being written in stone, or being a document which needs to grow as a healthy tree, towards the sun.

I often agree with Balkin's drift but he sure loves the abstract.

Why doesn't he just say this? Constitutions and parties get tested over time. They deal with these tests by changing. Trump is a test for both parties and change will inevitably follow from his presidency.

As has often been said over here, the big question is about speed of change. There's nothing permanent about human ideas. They depend upon their temporary environment.

Tablets made of stone are a form of human vanity. God is surely not so dumb as to write ten commandments on a rock for all time. The US Constitution isn't sacred writ: its strength is that it may be changed periodically.
