Report: Rosenstein Considers Recusing Self From Russia Probe

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein privately told colleagues he may need to recuse himself from overseeing the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, ABC News reports. Rosenstein, who appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate the matter, has been the Justice Department’s point man on the probe since March, when Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself. Despite the reported comments, the Department of Justice confirmed Friday that Rosenstein is still overseeing the special counsel. Still, Rosenstein’s private concerns could confirm the investigation is widening. It was reported this week that the special counsel has begun a preliminary inquiry into whether President Trump tried to obstruct justice by, among other things, firing former FBI Director James Comey.
