Indians live in squalor, single wides in the middle of nowhere, rocks and arid land, appalachia in the desert. It is a sad sight for those of us who've witnessed it. Some are doing better than others, like the Pueblo in New Mexico, around Santa Fe, but don't really have much information to say anything much about it anyway.
They want their own nation(s), but otoh they are pretty much on the outside of life. I am not sure self determination, under the circumstances does them any good.
Not sure what the solution is, but the current status is pitiful.
Assimilation and turning their lands into National Parks where they have never ending privileges, and profit sharing, give them for personal use acres of land where they can build and stay, and perhaps more opportunities to have their own businesses within National parks, etc. would be better than the current "nations" which I believe are not only dysfunctional but keep them "under". The harm done to them cannot be undone, and assimilation is the only good future in America, if one wants to have a future.
