If you recall, this election was supposed to have been 100% mail-in ballots, but the Republican Party of Montana objected since they felt that this would favor the Democrat. They wanted to have in-person voting only as this would make it harder for people to vote since they feel that liberals tend to be 'lazy' and would only vote if it was easy for them to do so. So this combination of mail-in and in-person voting was a compromise.

Of course, they may come to regret trying to stop the 100% mail-in ballot since if it had still been the plan, the election would have, for all intents and proposes, be over and this incident would have had no impact whatsoever. Of course, if that were the case, campaigning would have already been over and there would have been no situations where the candidates and the media would be interacting with each other.

Unfortunately, many of the vote have been mailed in already. Let's hope not enough to give this man the win.

On the eve of a special vote, the G.O.P. candidate for Montana's seat in the House was charged with assault for body-slamming a reporter

The Republican candidate in a hotly contested special House election in Montana was charged with assaulting a journalist on Wednesday at what was to be a final rally in Bozeman on the eve of the vote. The attack brought police officers to the event and sent the reporter to the hospital for X-rays.

In a statement late Wednesday, the office of the Gallatin County sheriff, Brian Gootkin, said there was enough evidence to cite the candidate, Greg Gianforte, with misdemeanor assault. Mr. Gianforte, the Republican candidate for the state’s lone House seat, is scheduled to appear in court before June 7.
