Primary results point to new direction for Wyoming Legislature
CHEYENNE — Tuesday’s primary election results could signal a significant shift in the direction of the Wyoming Legislature, according to Ryan Williamson.
The associate professor of political science at the University of Wyoming, who specializes in electoral and legislative politics, spoke with the Wyoming Tribune Eagle on Thursday. He said he believes a main reason behind the rebuke of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus was the policies the caucus members pursued in the most recent legislative session that were not particularly popular in the state.
Those actions — which included an attempt to slash the University of Wyoming’s budget by $40 million and eliminate the Wyoming Business Council — may still have been fresh in people’s minds, potentially leading to the electoral backlash they received, Williamson said.
The results will drastically change the makeup of the Legislature starting in January, with many Freedom Caucus members being ousted by moderate Republican challengers.
In the House, 13 incumbents lost their races, with nine caucus-aligned candidates losing to their primary challengers. That leaves the Freedom Caucus with, at most, 10 reliable votes, compared with the 35 who voted with it during this year’s session.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has pleaded no contest to criminal charges after he was arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. The 46-year-old, whose family is worth $8.5 billion, according to Forbes, was arrested Sunday morning in Ohio at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine and booked at Columbiana County Jail, according to a police report. The arrest comes as the result of collaboration between the East Palestine Police Department and the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. He was convicted of possessing criminal tools, but prior to his no-contest plea, his other charge for engaging in prostitution was altered to a disorderly conduct charge. The judge sentenced him to one day in prison per charge, which were to be served concurrently. He also had to pay $150 for the disorderly conduct charge and $1,500 for the possession of criminal tools. York has been the 49ers’ CEO since 2008 and is the franchise’s majority shareholder. He grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, and has two sons, Jaxon and Brixton, with his wife, Danielle Belluomini.

He was waiting for his son to return from the USS Lincoln. Then Border Patrol arrested him
When Luis Manuel Aviles was arrested by immigration authorities, his son was entering his ninth month on the USS Abraham Lincoln with the Navy — a vessel that set a U.S. military record for uninterrupted time at sea, stirring concerns about supply shortages and deteriorating mental health among soldiers.
Luis Manuel Aviles, 48, was arrested after leaving his house to take his car to the mechanic, according to his wife, Argelia Aviles. She said her husband, a handyman in Key West, Florida, has a permit to work in the United States. Originally from Nicaragua, he has lived in the U.S. for 19 years.
“He dedicates himself only to work so he can put food on the table at home. He is a good father. He loves his children with all his soul,” said Argelia, 47.
Aviles’ arrest comes as the Trump administration rolls back immigration protections for military families to pursue its mass deportation agenda, detaining at least dozens of parents and spouses of active-duty U.S. troops.

It’s hard to overstate how shocking Nixon’s victory was. Vindman garnered national attention — and an army of small-dollar donors — after testifying in the Trump impeachment proceedings. He spent $9 million total by the end of July. Nixon spent less than $900,000.
