A black organization is hosting a Georgia networking event on Thursday to help white people become friends with non-white people.

"Come Meet Black People," to be hosted on Thursday, is meant to help white people meet black people and vice versa, CNN reported Tuesday. Organized in conjunction with the Urban Mediamakers and other groups, the event urges white people to put aside "pre-conceived notions" about the black community and come out to make friends with black people, the event page reads. ...

You know ... in general, I don't have any problem at all with this kind of community effort ... I really don't ... BUT ... do they REALLY have to invite white people "to put aside their pre-conceived notions about black people"? REALLY?! This begs two questions:

1. Does this black organization not realize that, by asking that very question, they are brazenly broadcasting their very own "pre-conceived notions" about white people???

2. When this organization sent its invitations for black people to attend, did it correspondingly tell them "to put aside their pre-conceived notions about white people and come out to make friends," eh???

Maybe it's just me, but I think they might get more white participants if they had left off the preemptive scold against the predetermined prejudice that they have towards white people. It simply screams that the onus will be solely on the white people to single-handedly make this meet-n-greet work.
