Regarding the invasion of Iraq . . .

Let me start by debunking a couple of popular lies.

Lie #1. The U.S. invaded Iraq to steal their oil. To my knowledge we never stole the Iraqi's oil. Which means who-ever said that lied.

Lie #2. We only invaded Iraq because we thought they had WMD's and saddam had no WMD's. According the resolution passed (almost unanimously by the congress) there were three major reasons for invading Iraq. WMD's, Human Rights Abuses, and terrorists. I personally would not invade another country over WMD's. I would not invade another country over human rights abuses. But I would happily obliterate any country who aided and abetted 9-11.

However, to be clear, saddam's Iraq did have WMD's. A binary nerve gas artillery shell that was used as an IED was proof positive. Not to mention that saddam had ample time to remove and hide WMD's and evidence of them. (And there was a few news stories suggesting saddam had removed them and sent them to Lebanon's Bekaa Valley.)

My number one suspect as to who perpetrated 9-11 remains saddam hussein. Of all the worlds despots, saddam was the most highly motivated to do the deed. (No-fly zones over northern and southern Iraq?) Saddam also had somewhere around a $billion a year in un-accounted for 'oil for food' corruption moneys to fund the venture. And there were a number of linkages between saddam hussein and osama-bin-laden.

I could go on . . . I could probably find more evidence. . .

And given the demo-rat parties (and their media boot-lickers) penchant for lying and slandering their political opponents as well as fabricating false 'evidence' and hiding real evidence of actual malfeasance practiced by themselves and their 'partisans' and 'allies' . . .

Hi Rbit. I'm trying to read between the lines – which is hard because you joke so much.

Are you referring to Vietnam or something else?

I had to register for the draft, but the Vietnam War was winding down by then. I remember being opposed to that war; I couldn't understand why it was in the average American's best interest to be there. I have been opposed to nearly every war since – because of lack of direct interest. I made an exception for the Taliban – until the reality of the situation, and the lies, became too evident, as the US *criminally*, and quite transparently, used Afghanistan as a pretence to go after Iraq (which had the oil the Afghans lacked).

I'm not blanket opposed to war, however. I believe I would have supported WW2 (can't know, as I wasn't born). I also think locals have a right to fight if they aren't getting redress any other way. And, perhaps controversially, I actually believe that if any group of people want to “break away” from a larger state or country, they certainly should have the right to do that. If government is a “social contract” (a bogus argument, IMO, but cited ad museum) then n there should be a signature for every person who goes along with it. And those who don't go along with it should, at a minimum, be allowed to “opt out” (easier said than done, but I think the Amish and indians are examples in this country...)

Anyway, I am interested in your context. If you fought in Vietnam, my respects...and commiseration.

---
P.S. When I look at modern wars, I have a hard time explaining them except: too much government with too many corrupt insiders incited by too much fiat money to do too much plundering. Very few actually appear to be groundswell driven by the people who actually live - and die - in the conflicts.
