Re: “I don't usually buy lotto tickets, but when it gets above $400 or $500 million, I'll breakdown and invest $20. After all, my odds of winning are exactly the same as whoever does win. Note that I won $4 last night (one ticket matched the 'Powerball' number).”

Your $20 "investment" is now worth $4, and you call that a win? LOL... you need to think that through, son.

Your reasoning is flawed in another way. Winning $20 million would be NEARLY as life altering as winning $500 million. You'd be able to sell that cottage on a postage stamp lot and live in a real house. Or two, even! The competition for a $20 million pot isn't nearly as stiff as for $500 million - so, if you won, you'd be more likely keep the entire thing (less taxes, of course).

I think playing the lottery is stupid, but I've gambled once or twice and won't begrudge you your fun. If playing it is what you enjoy, you may as well play it every week.

But limit it to $1 per game. You'd still get the fun without losing as much money.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
