A fascinating exchange on the Pffart3 board today, demonstrating clo's lifelong hatred of men and - with just a little imagination on the reader's part - explaining the lack of success she's had in her life. It went approximately like this…

I was born into a Catholic family.
The oldest of four girls, we all attended parochial school.

Religion was drummed into us, fear & shame, with a sprinkle of a miracle stuck with me.

Heaven & hell the polar opposites, results of our behavior, depending if we made it to confession first.

But there was also limbo, a place for infants who weren't baptized. OMG can you imagine teaching children infants would be left in limbo forever, through no fault of their own...
Now you know why I rejected religion.

-clo

Well, I'm not as cynical about religion. I too am a 'cradle Catholic', and while I recognize that a lot of very terrible and divisive deeds have been done in the name of religion, I also believe that it's a great comfort for millions, if not billions of people.

For me personally, I've always believed that I've lived a blessed life. Not perfect by any means, but blessed in so many ways.

Sure, you're a man ;)
-clo

Now THAT'S being cynical. Yes, I'm a man, but if you asked my wife, I suspect you'd get a similar response, and she's a convert. She converted when she was 20 years old, a year before we got married, and in many ways, she's a much better Catholic than I am. And she's a big part of why I say I've lived a blessed life.

As an item on the bookcase in our family room states:

The secret of life is not finding someone to live with

It's finding someone you can't live without

-OCU

Classic!

I don't often agree with oldCADuser, but I certainly do this time. Yeah, clo, men just have it easy. So easy, in fact, that some of them used to get drafted when they were still just kids and sent overseas where they could get killed for their country. [Shame on you for having forgotten that this happens.] SO easy that they usually have to foot most of the bills while dating. Men get most of the pressure to provide financially for their families, and most of the blame when marriages don't work. Courts generally give the children and the house to the women while men get enormous new expenses. With all that, they also get the joy of ulcers - at nearly twice the rate of women. Having had everything else so easy, they get to die five years sooner than women.

You know, clo, there are an awful lot of women who've had rich and fulfilling lives. The fact that you aren't one of them is on YOU, not your sex.

If you had spent a bit less of your life pitying yourself, drinking and blaming men, and a bit more time studying, working hard and taking personal responsibility, you'd have turned out better. But... what goes around, comes around - you know? That's what my wife and I have learned. And, btw, our lives have been great.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
