verses 14 - 19
14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.
16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
the lesson in verse 18 could not be more clear or helpful to us today. JESUS RESPONDS to those WHO LOVE HIM and WORSHIP HIM with a pure heart. Remember that HE looks upon the heart. We learned this earlir in this chapter. Now comes a Jewish ruler inociety who believes that Jesus is Christ, the Son of God. He has believed in his heart and and Jesus looks upon his heart and hears his earnest cry for help for another, his own daughter.Jesus reponds immediately to his cry for help.
We are taught in HIS WORD that we are to cast ALL our cares upon HIM because HE CARES FOR US! He said to come unto HIM all of you who are laboring and and have burdens and HE WILL GIVE YOU REST. How do we come to JESUS? We come with a bowed head and heart. We come in reverent awe and a Holy fear of the eternal GOD who loves us and gave HIMSELF for us. We come BELIEVING by FAITH that HE will hear our requests and that HE will respond to us in HIS time. It may not be immediate as this situation was. But HE will hear and He will gicve us exactly what we need when we need it. Have FAITH and trust HIM. Trust HIM with your very eternal Spirit and Soul. He is the SON of GOD, our Savior and our Lord. This ruler andleader knew that and came humbly, reverently, and pleaded with HIM to heal his daughter of her sickness. Jesus reponds to a contrite and sincere heart...
