BREAKING: Russian operative Maria Butina agrees to plead guilty to conspiring to infiltrate U.S. groups and to work with prosecutors
Maria Butina, the Russian operative accused of building ties to the NRA and influential Republicans, has agreed to plead guilty and cooperate with federal prosecutors, according to a plea agreement obtained by NBC News.
According to the documents, Butina, 29, will admit to violating a law that governs foreign agents for the purpose of communicating with Americans who have “power and influence” in U.S. politics.
The estimated sentencing guideline ranges from 0 to 6 months in prison.
