“So a £651billion gain for the UK versus a £507billion loss for the EU – it could not be more open and shut who should least want a breakdown [of UK-EU negotiations re Brexit]. For the UK a breakdown would be a short-term nuisance but a substantial economic gain.
For the EU it is both a short-term nuisance and a substantial economic loss.”
That was my original point. It would be nice to get a sensible trade deal with the EU allowing frictionless, tariff-free trade. But if we can't get such a deal, and WTO tariffs are imposed, the consequences are worse for the EU.
Also, their contempt for the UK, which was obvious when we were part of it, is blindingly so now.
