He avoided answering any substantial question during his hearing. Now he wants the benefit of the doubt. But his evasions work against him now. No one knows much about this guy. Why would we believe him?
Now he will answer questions candidly? Why not previously?
My guess is he fumbled what he thought was a seduction and pushed it drunkenly too far. If he'd said that originally, his candour would be a sort of protection. But he denied it and forced the issue of her truthfulness into being.
If she weeps, he's doomed. He's in trouble.
