Report: North Korea Ditches Talks About U.S. War Remains

North Korean representatives left U.S. officials waiting at the inter-Korean border Thursday when they did not attend a planned meeting to discuss the return of the remains of American soldiers, according to a report from Bloomberg News.

This meeting was supposed to be the first that followed Pompeo’s ill-fated North Korea visit, after which tensions re-escalated and North Korea decried the U.S.’s “unilateral and gangster-like demand for denuclearization.” Bloomberg adds that the failure to secure at least some of these remains, an estimated “200 sets” from nearly 70 years ago, would be a major failure for Pompeo, given that they were “perhaps the most tangible outcome” from his trip. The meeting has now been rescheduled for July 15.
